Don't Get Between Me and My Crib

On Presidents Day we partially converted Harrison's Crib to a Toddler bed. He was quite excited with the prospect and once it was all finished he got in and tested it out. When a friend stopped by later in the week for the first time, he showed her his room and his "big boy" bed with shear delight.

A week later, when we got home from church, we went upstairs and put the rail back on the bed with the help of Harrison.

Why did we switch back, you ask? Well, 4 nights of going down at his regular time (8:00pm) and staying awake until 11:00pm or later was enough for us to get the hint. I intervened a couple of times, not because he was getting up and wondering around or coming down stairs. On the contrary, he stayed in bed for the most part; with the exception of getting out of bed, opening the drawer underneath it, pulling out of the items and throwing them in bed with him; or getting a magnet off his magnet board, a toy off the floor and bringing it to bed. He would then lay in there are sing songs for the next 2 to 3 hours. In the morning there were so many things in the bed that there was hardly enough room for him. Maybe that's why he was also waking up at 5 or 6 am.

It has been a couple months since we put the rail back up and everything is status quo. Maybe in a few more months we'll try it again. Harrison is obviously content with the cocoon type feeling that his crib gives him while he sleeps in it, yet he still has the freedom to climb in and out "on his own".

I'm not getting between the boy and his crib!

I love that last shot - what a bright smile he has!

I don't blame you for putting the rail back on....sleep trumps just about everything else!

Oh, please, please, please, Harrison, DO NOT CALL M and give her the secret to the climb. She's yet to discover that little trick, which makes me so very happy. When she's in her bed, she's IN and doesn't get out until I get her in the morning.

Although this summer, she must move to her twin bed so we can prepare her for the arrival of a new baby (if it stays put!). In order to make the move, she must throw away her pacifier. Mom and Dad are NOT looking forward to this at all.

oh this is the bane of my existence. why do they fight bedtime!? i don't get it. i do love the shot of the climbing in, though...

i just don't. in response to your question about the haircuts...i don't think it has anything to do with the first-borns just because in the Orthodox communities, where they don't cut their boys' hair, it doesn't matter if they're first or tenth-born, that's still how it goes. but i'm sure we could make the connection if we wanted to!:-)

Yeah..we did the convert - and the conversion back, too. It has since been converted back - and so far so good, but I say keep it on as long as he sleeps and is happy!

Smart!! We have both kids in big kid beds (full size). They routinely come downstairs after bedtime has passed and are "hungry" or "thirsty" or "have to go potty and can't do it myself". It gets pretty frustrating.

I love the pictures - so cute!

Great action shot! My son had a TON of stuff in his crib too before he went to his big boy bed. And now... his big bed is always covered with stuffed animals too!

Oh I loved that second shot!! I'm so stinking scared that our son will be even WORSE than Harrison.

Is it wrong for a child to be in a crib until they are 18? Hope not.
