Theme Thursday - My Spirited 3-Year-Old!

Well, Harrison turned 3 Officially on Tuesday. We spent the day at Disneyland - all day at Disneyland! What better way to celebrate the day.

Who is that big boy sitting up there?

I opted NOT to have a birthday party this year for several reasons, one being that my very Spirited young boy has become VERY aware of the Birthday Party routine, and I know that if I did a full invite-all-the-kids-we've-ever-met party he would actually expect that EVERY year. As it is, we had a nice celebration on Saturday with "family" when Harrison's God-family drove down to celebrate and last night we ate pizza and strawberry cheesecake for dessert, complete with candle blowing again. He's happy.

When Harrison was born there was a short time that he wasn't breathing. I knew there was something going on, even though they don't tell you right away to keep you from worrying, then I heard the nurse say, "He's pinking up." and I knew he was ok. He started out spirited, nothing was going to get in his way. He's been like that ever since. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's - exhausting. While most other parents spent their first few weeks with a sleeping infant to coo over, I was trying to figure out the best way to get him to rest once in a while. It was a sign - of his spirit. He finally started napping well around 3 months. My lactation consultant recommended a book to me, Raising Your Spirited Child by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka. I'm not one to sit down and read these parenting books cover to cover (and I didn't here) but I have read it as I have needed it and it has often allowed my to breathe a sign of relief and given me tools I need for my very energetic little boy. In fact, it's time to do some revisiting.

While I go do some reading, Harrison would like to show his other Star Whores Rocketship that he got for his Birthday.

Is that cool or what? Two ships and some "Star Whore" figures, a rockin' birthday!

Check out Land of K.A. and see what other spirited pictures are popping up!

Sensible you having a family birthday instead of the over the top production numbers we have all had the folly to commit.:-D

Wonderful pix of your spirited lad.

We also had a little "scare" when Ad was born...purple, not breathing, intubated, finally screaming...didn't stop for a good 3 hours. Also have/occasionally read the Spirited Child as well!

I love, love, love that first photo! They are all great, but that first one is spectacular!

Wow, I'd say all day at Disneyland would be an awesome way to spend a birthday! I love your color saturation in the first picture. Very nice.

I HAVE to remember to tell the husband about Star Whores...that is completely THE funniest thing I have heard that a toddler says! (And our daughter used to say "DUMMY labbits" for bunny rabbits.)
Like so many others, I LOVE the first shot. It really shows his liveliness and personality...I can imagine that is exhausting sometimes, but what a great little man! I know you have a blast whenever he's around, and that he brings JOY to everyone he meets! So glad to hear that the whole birthday was a perfect day.

Oh man, that first photo is awesome! You are creating the coolest treatments lately. I think Harrison and my Nadia would get along famously - he sounds just like her, starting out "spirited" and never stopping for a moment. It's a challenge and a joy! I'll have to check out that book.
Happy Birthday one last time, Mr. Harrison!
