I mentioned that we went to the La Brea Tar Pits and saw dinosaurs, on the way home Harrison asked to go to the library to get a book and a movie about dinosaurs.
While there, he found some books about space, and planets, and rockets. We brought one home and read it over and over.
Then I suggested that we make a rocket. We used paper-towel tubes, newspaper and Mod-Podge. He especially loved the gluing part.
...and we had to wait for it to dry.
The next day we painted it white
...and then we waited for it to dry.
The next day we painted red on it for flames and doors and an astronaut
...and then we waited for it to dry.
Now it sits on the nature table... waiting for Harrison to play.
Note to self: Never make paper-maché project that includes a lot of waiting with 3-year-old again.
The next day we watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang together for the first time. (skipped a couple scenes - love DVD players.)
Later Harrison asks, "Mommy can we make a flying car?!"
Anyone know how to make a flying car out of paper-maché ?

ha ha ha what a COOL rocket... and I am laughing at the flying car. How cute.
no, can't make a papier mache anything BUT you should make a rocket that "flies".
seriously, it is easy too! i swear!
you need a film canister- the kind where the lid fits inside the container NOT snaps over the top (i believe fuji film canisters are like this. i know you probably don't have any of these but if you go to a camera store that does developing they will have them and will give them to you if you ask- they are just going to get recycled anyways) you fill it half way with water. you put in half an fizzy alka-seltzer tablet. snap the lid on quickly and set the canister on its lid. when the pressure builds up the lid will blow and the canister will shoot into the air. (if you decorate the canister it will look like a rocket.) i used to do this in the latch key program i worked at. our "rockets" started hitting the ceiling inside so we had to start shooting them off outside. :)
ok, that was a way too long comment. sorry! have fun!!
You are such a fun mom! Too cool. We're waiting to see that flying car...hmmmm?
Carey, I'm totally going to have to do that with Nadia!
You ARE a fun Mom! And Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a CLASSIC of CLASSICS.
Looks like fun, and the rocket turned out great! I'd like to take my girls there someday. Have you heard about that dinosaur exhibit in L.A.?
